Can I mount my satellite dish directly on my roof?

I am having trouble with my satellite installation. I can’t mount my dish on the wall because it doesn’t fit the dishnetwork specifications( skew, az, elevat…) Is it safe to mount my dish directly on my roof (which is not flat, its at an angle) ? If so what would I need? and will there be any leaks??

I have standard shingles on my roof

You definitely should not mount it directly to the roof. Anything going through the shingles will cause leakage problems. Mine is actually mounted to bracket that is attached to the side of the hosue and extends out past the eaves. If your doing it yourself, go the hardware store and look at the mounting brackets used for exterior antennas. You should be able to find somethinhg that would mount to the side of the house. I have seen some brackets that mount to the exhaust pipe on the roof of your house too.
