How to improve coax signal? Will booster work?
Hello,
I’m looking to boost the signal from my Direct TV multiswitch to one of the receivers. If have two other coax lines from the multiswitch to two receivers that work perfectly. I’m just having issues with a third coax line that doesn’t carry a good enough signal (I get sound but the image is stuck). I tired an inline amplifier and it didn’t work. Will a powered amplifier work better? I do recognize that the problem is with my the Coax Cable between the multiswitch and the receiver in question. Any suggestion what might help if not an amplifier? The cable runs through the walls so replacing it is not really an (affordable) option.
That multiswitch puts out plenty of signal. I would bet that you have a problem with the Coaxial Cable leading to the receiver in question. If that is indeed the case an amplifier won’t do you any good.

Replacing your cable, or running another cable are pretty much your only options. I would think that you could get an electrician or a communications contractor to install another cable for around $75.
It’s really not hard to run cable on the outside of the house. If you want to keep it inside the wall, one can use the old cable to pull the new cable from the attic down through the inside of the wall. If you have a friend who is a DIYer the two of you could probably do it in an afternoon. I have installed cable outlets for friends for the price of sharing a six-pack with me.
